Description
Located by the sea on the Diagonal avenue, this building houses, among others, the headquarters of Telefónica in Catalonia. Its height of 110 metres and 24 floors makes it a landmark of Barcelona's skyline.
The diamond-shaped building has a trapezoidal base and occupies a plot of 4,000 m2. The structure is built around a central concrete core that includes lifts, equipment spaces, emergency and services stairs. The perimeter is reinforced with a system of telescopic aluminium profiles, surrounded by another xerographic curtain wall.
The average floor height is 4 m with a slab thickness ranging between 0.4 and 0.3 m.
ULMA Solution
The central core has been poured two floors ahead of the slabs with Climbing System 2000 and ENKOFORM V-100 formwork. Most slabs were built with RAPID slab formwork and in some cases with ENKOFLEX.
To avoid anchor holes in the concrete, the wall was poured in 4.50 m high tiers. A waler truss and push-pull props were used to avoid tie rods passing through the wall, as they were placed at the top and bottom of each tier.
The Climbing System 2000 with shaping timber at the inside corners eased the adaptation to the trapezoidal geometry of the core.
